Form 1042-S Chapter 4 (FATCA) Status Codes

Chapter 4 status codes give the FATCA status of the withholding agent (box 12c), the recipient (box 13k), an intermediary (box 15c) and the payer (box 16e). A recipient's code is required only for a withholdable payment or a U.S. payee pool, and for an entity it usually comes straight from the box checked on line 5 of Form W-8BEN-E.
